Sarnia Girls' Soccer Club

What qualifications do I need to coach select or travel soccer?

If you are interested in coaching in our Select or Travel programs, there are requirements set by Ontario Soccer that must be met.

In order to be a head or assistant coach in festivals, tournmanets or league play (LKYDSL, EMDSL and WRSL (formerly WOYSL)) you must have the following training:

U8: FUNdamentals (a 1 day in person technical course from Ontario Soccer) + Making Ethical Decisions (MED) (on-line or in person from NCCP) + Respect in Soccer (RiS) (on-line course)

U9 - U12: Learn to Train (a 2 day in person technical course from Ontario Soccer) + Making Ethical Decisions (MED) (on-line or in person from NCCP) + Respect in Soccer (RiS) (on-line course)

U13+ Soccer for Life (a 2 day in person technical course from Ontario Soccer) + Making Ethical Decisions (MED) (on-line or in person from NCCP) + Respect in Soccer (RiS) (on-line course) + if coaching L3 you must take Making Head Way in Soccer (MHW)

Additionally, the Club requires (as does virtually every club) a current police check including vulnerable sectors check.

All previous L1 to L3 and Community Coach Child to Community Coach Senior credentials HAVE BEEN REVOKED by Ontario Soccer.

Those with higher qualifications (e.g. A, B or C license) are exempted from the technical course requirements above.
